White chalk paint candelabra with Shabby Chic finish on a decorative background

You Can Do This Too: My DIY Candelabra Makeover

I constantly was seeing candelabras everywhere a few years back and knew that I wanted to make one of my own. The process was quite simple amounting to paint and crystals.

To start with,

I bought a metal candelabra from Amazon. I believe it was black.

I immediately started painting it with white chalk paint and after letting it sit for a moment, but still wet, I started wet sanding it so some of the black would show through. I was going for a Shabby Chic look that Rachel Ashwell would have. After wet sanding it, I allowed it to dry completely. Now I sanded it a bit to bring through the actual metal that is always difficult because the item is powder-coated.

I used a round chalk paint brush to get into all the details.

This process was so much fun because I kept jumping around.

After all was done, I repainted it in white chalk paint, just pouncing on the paint creating a thick consistency (perfect for sanding). So when this coat was completely dry, I decided to really get into sanding it heavily.

To finish this project, I decided to spray clear acrylic to protect it.

XOXO Taina
